Sensory panelists needed!
As we gear up for another season of sensory tests, the Cornell Enology Extension Lab (CEEL) at the New York State Experiment Station is putting together a standing list of sensory panelists. Rather than spam all our e-mail lists every time we run a test, we’re asking anyone interested in serving as a panelist to respond, so that in the future, we’ll only request panelists from a list of people we know are interested.
Who’s eligible? Anyone! While most of our tests involve wine or juice, we also run analyses on a range of foods, so anyone who eats and drinks may be a good potential panelist. You don’t have to be associated with the Experiment Station. If you have friends or family who would be interested, please share this e-mail.
What’s the time commitment? Tests range from single sessions to several sessions stretched out over a few weeks. Each session is usually 20min-1hr, and we rarely schedule more than one a day, or two a week for extended tests. The time period for each test will be announced in the e-mail requesting panelists, so you can pick and choose the tests that you’d like to participate in and have time for.
How do I benefit? Most tests include a nominal payment, usually between $5-15 per session. If you’re interested in food, or interested in science, there are other benefits as well- often you’ll be tasting new and interesting products, and can hone your own skills tasting and smelling foods and wines. More importantly, you’ll be a part of studies that quite literally guide NY’s agricultural and food industries in choices about product lines and consumer preferences.
How often will we e-mail you? It depends on the number of studies we have at any one time, but you generally won’t receive more than one e-mail request per month.
How do I sign up? It’s easy! Just send an e-mail to Anna Katharine Mansfield at akm87@cornell.edu with the subject line “Sensory panelist list.” Tell me your name and your preferred e-mail, and you’re all done! We’ll put you on the official list, and you’ll be hearing from us soon! If you wish to be removed from the list for any reason, just e-mail akm87@cornell.edu and we’ll take you off with no questions asked. We won’t use this list for any other purpose or share it with other groups.
