The Philosophy of Genevalution
First of all, Genevalution is not about selling a vision or idea to the people of Geneva. We don't need that because the people of Geneva already have plenty of vision and ideas. Unfortunately, that vision has been overshadowed by years of apathy, poor economy, New York State's continued decline and an unhealthy status quo.
Genevalution is about overcoming the fear of change.
Genevalution is about changing our actions from a modus operandi of protecting our declining status quo to a way of life and action that improves our quality of life.
To do that is going to take courage and action.
This will not be easy, and it's not a short term plan.
As such, there is some reading that might be beneficial for any with the gall to put their shoulders to the grindstone.
Man vs. State - Spencer, Herbert
Ishmael - Quinn, Daniel
The Culture of Make Believe - Jensen, Derrick
Synergetics - Fuller, R. Buckminster
I'm not advocating that the above writings hold the precise questions and answers that Geneva has to grapple with, but they tackle fundamental questions that we will inevitably encounter if we are seriously endeavoring to revolutionize Geneva in a new and better light.
In addition, in putting yourself in the mindframe needed to digest these books you may find yourself better able to grapple the task ahead. Even if you are not the book-type, I encourage you to try Ishmael, the most accessible of the above. Give it an honest try. If you can't muscle it through you can always dialogue with others- sometimes life conversation is a much better teacher than the written word, and it comes much more naturally to some than literary study.
At a brief glance, Genevalution will appear idealist and naively Utopian. Underneath it is hard and honest work. And believe me honest work is the hardest of all. Under it's surface of words and rhetoric, Genevalution is about picking up a shovel.
While Genevalution is certainly not about circumventing the authority of local government, it is about not waiting for or relying on it.
The ideal beauty of the the American system of government is that (in theory) it is the embodiment of the will of the people.
Leaving it at that, Genevalution is also about the will of the people.
Genevalution is built upon the idea that if a people see a solution to their situation they need not wait for a litigious and bureaucratic finality. If a solution amenable to all parties can be found, that situation may be acted upon directly.
It is apparent that the people of Geneva are tired of being a part of a "Beleaguered City". They speak. They rally.
Speaking until now has been the sharing of feeling, emotion, and rhetoric.
Genevalution is about molding those words into a formidable plan and taking action.
